The 10-year-old Dutch warmblood stallion Zack (by Rousseau x Jazz x Belisar) has been proclaimed Danish Stallion of the Year 2014 at the Danish Warmblood Stallion Licensing in Herning, Denmark, on Saturday 8 February 2014.
Owned by Blue Hors Stud in Randbol, Denmark, Zack has already left a clear mark on Danish and international breeding, having sired no less than 22 approved sons and two gold medal mares. Furthermore, 85 percent of his daughters have passed their riding tests and are graded in the main studbook.
"I am quite sure that he originally was bought as an experiment. In that case, it must be the most successful experiment ever conducted in Danish Warmblood," said Poul Graugaard, spokesman of the Danish warmblood licensing committee.
The Elite stallion Zack was decorated with the title at the Licensing and his Dutch breeders Trudy and Bas Wilschut were honoured there as well alongside the owner. Blue Hors stud's Susanne and Esben Møller accepted Peder Hostrup Pedersen’s statuette and an oil painting of the stallion by Thomas Bach Jensen.
"We bought him for 430,000 euro at the KWPN licensing," said Esben Møller. Zack was the 2007 KWPN Licensing Champion and was originally named Zagreb.
Although trained at small tour level, Zack has never competed at an international dressage competition. Between 2009 and 2013 he has competed at five national shows under riders Sune Hansen, Allan Gron and Maik Kohlschmidt.
