EQUITA, International equestrian salon, was held in French Lyon. It started a week after the ending of the largest Russian equestrian exhibition “Equiros”. Maria Talanova, an editor of the horsetimes.ru, inspired by relaxing atmosphere of a long weekend in Russia, decided to go to the capital of beaujolais and have a look on the equestrian shows in Europe.
EQIUTA has been held in Lyon for more than for 20 years, since 1994. It is a huge event about all spheres of equestrian industry and sport. Due to the official data, around 1,000 companies (780 this year) and more than 3,500 horses participate in the exhibition every year. The salon is held on the 130,000 square meters of the EUROEXPO pavilion. During EQUITA the World Cup series in dressage and showjumping also took place, attracting the best athletes from Europe, including: Germany, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Belgium, UK and other countries.
To get to EUROEXPO from the city center is quite complicated. You have to speak at least basic French to find a proper tram going from the railway station Part Dieu in the direction of international airport of Lyon, beside which the exhibition center is located. You need to change two types of transport: tram and bus. The whole route takes about 40 minutes.
When you got to EUROEXPO, you would realize the scale of the event and the tremendous efforts of the organizers. The territory of 130,000 square meters was effectively divided into the zones. Here you could find everything related to agriculture and farming, horse riding tourism, stallions show, apparel and ammunition, horse riding art, leather products and of course sport areas. In every zone, there were also bistrots, where visitors could have a lunch in either fast-food or specialties of national cuisines of France, Belgium, USA and Switzerland. There were families with kids and dogs everywhere. There was a competition arena in the central zone. There the access was possible only with special tickets.
Equestrian fans were surrounding a warming-up zone, where the world's leading showjumpers were showing their skills. Among them were: Simon Delestre, Steve Guerda, Michael Witacker and others. Assistants were endlessly rearranging cavaletti. Once a rider performed a jump, there was a huge "Wow".
On the opposite side there were main partners of the fair, such as: French luxury brand Hermes, that presented saddles and other products made of leather and Swiss watch-making brand Longines. Everything was possible to buy. For example, the price of Longines watches started from 1500 EUR.
”Ladies and Gentlemen, we are very glad to welcome in Lyon at the World Cup”, - a loud vice announced the beginning of the show. Here, in Europe, watching the World Cup, you realize, how great the attention to equestrian sports is. Huge tribunes and VIP-zones with tables were fully packed. Here it’s like the support of hockey in Russia with the emotions and happiness coming after the favorite team wins the Cup.
What is really important is that the Europeans learn this atmosphere since they are kids. At the trade show there were a lot of children. Most of them were wearing the bridges, sports jackets and boots. At the stables they were very glad to communicate with animals. There was the expression of a real fest at their faces.
